Trump and his Executive Orders

Writer's picture: Wayne DruryWayne Drury
Donald Trump has signed about two hundred executive orders. Here is a smattering of some of them. Are these actions, and many more, what you voted for? Is this what you wanted?

EGGS

Eggs. The price of Eggs is reportedly up 37%.

How do you feel about that? Are you happy with that?

PARDONS AND COMMUTING SENTENCES

Trump pardoned or commuted the sentences of all the January 6 convicts. Many were highly violent, attacking police officers. Yeah, there are those out there who will use two things as a defence mechanism. “Whataboutism,” and it was the “weaponization” of the justice system.

Whataboutism

“Whataboutism.” Well, what about this person or that? Why were they not charged? This isn’t about someone else but the people who stormed the capital.

Weaponization

Weaponization of the Justice System. How does one weaponize the justice system? The weaponization of the Justice Department is one thing and possible. But under the legal system in the USA, how does one weaponize the Justice System? Please think about it for a minute:

  • Step 1: A grand jury of 19 – 25 people heard the charges and examined the evidence. They voted to lay charges.

  • Step 2: The Judge is there to ensure that the legal process is followed. Several steps can be taken if either side does not like what the judge says or does.

  • Step 3: Both sides get to pick the jury. The jury does not just miraculously show up.

  • Step 4: Both sides present evidence, object, and call witnesses. They have an equal opportunity to demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused did or did not do what is suggested in the charges.

  • Step 5: The jury of up to twelve persons listens to the evidence and decides whether it is guilty or not guilty, and it must be unanimous. Twelve independent minds agreed to by both sides make the decision.

  • Step 6: If found guilty, the person is sentenced based on sentencing rules. Both sides get to present their arguments about sentencing. The Judge does not just dream up the sentence; if there is disagreement, the guilty person can enter the appeal process.

  • Step 7: In the District of Columbia, where the trials took place, the first step is appealing to the DC Court of Appeals. The guilty party can appeal a judgment of conviction, sentence, or other rulings that affect the person’s substantial rights.

After the legal team for the guilty and the prosecution provide their evidence, oral arguments may be held before the judges, allowing them to ask questions and

discuss the case

  • Step 8: If either side still disagrees with a decision, they can appeal for a rehearing or to the Supreme Court.

Think about it for a minute. How does one weaponize the justice system –separate from the Justice Department? Two separate and distinct things.

WHAT WAS WEAPONIZED?

I am not arguing whether the Justice Department was weaponized. But let’s take it to the extreme and say Biden weaponized it. That is one thing, but how could anyone, even the President, weaponize the justice system—the courts, the people, and the process involved in determining whether a person is guilty of a crime?

It is impossible, but it makes a good talking point.

In the case of the Jan 6 rioters, almost 2,000 went through this process and were found guilty, with many of them deciding to plead guilty of their own free will. Then came President Trump, who pardoned or commuted the sentences of almost 1,600 of them.

WHAT IS A PARDON SUPPOSED TO BE?

A pardon is supposed to express the president's forgiveness. It is ordinarily granted in recognition of the applicant's acceptance of responsibility for the crime and established good conduct over a significant period. However, it does not signify innocence.

Does that sound like the J6 rioters getting pardons or commuted sentences from President Trump?

Now, the criminals are roaming the streets, and the worst of them have already said that they are going to take up guns. How does that make the streets safer? And, I will not even begin to go into the contradiction of Trump’s actions to remove the supposedly criminal hordes of immigrants but wantonly releasing US citizen criminals back into the street.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

REMOVING IMMIGRANTS

Trump has said that there are no limits. ICE can go into schools, churches, stores, and places of work and grab people without any due process. No warrants required, no court order, nothing. It's just Gestapo-like action to round them up.

You want to talk about weaponization. That is weaponization, which ultimately breaks down any rule of law.

We will not talk about the lack of legality, the weaponization, or the terror and emotional damage done to those not affected –think of the terror created for children in a school or a person in a place of worship, to all of a sudden be confronted by people in jackboots, decked out in black outfits, wearing face masks and carrying AK47’s, coming in to grab people who do not look American.

PRICE OF MEDICATIONS

Trump cancelled Biden’s order to lower drug prices that helped millions of folks.

The average price of insulin dropped 42% from 2019 to mid-2024. About 8.4 million people in the USA will now pay much higher prices to live.

How is that supposed to bring down inflation?

Here is a graph of the price of insulin. It is now on its way up, along with the costs of many other drugs.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

MEDICARE, MEDICAID AND THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (OBAMA CARE)

To clarify, the Affordable Care Act and Obama Care are the same thing. For the people who wanted to tear up Obama Care but supported the Affordable Care Act, what was with that?

Trump is making significant changes, up to eliminating coverage for millions of people.

This will affect almost everyone, costing you more healthcare and possibly even lives.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

PARIS ACCORD AND CLIMATE PLANS

The Paris Accord is an international treaty to address Global Warming and Climate Change and Trump has pulled the USA out of that.

Trump is also rolling back environmental and other regulations that protect US citizens. No more “clean air and water that you breathe.”

He also supports funding cuts to various renewable energy and climate change programs and policies favouring the fossil fuel industry, such as “Drill Baby Drill.” He is also rolling back regulations supporting the transition to renewable energy.

Environmental issues aside, what about all the folks who will become unemployed because the projects are stopped? They will not be needed to do the projects or produce the goods and services required to support those projects? Is that going to help lower unemployment?

To Trump, the well-being of US citizens is less important than the interests of the fossil fuel industry. Remember when Trump said, “Bring me $one billion, and I will more than make it up to you?” Well, he just did.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

EDUCATION

He has signed executive orders to gut education programs, such as breakfast and many others. Who cares if the kids go hungry?

BUILDING ROADS AND BRIDGES

Trump has frozen funding for rebuilding roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, and other infrastructure. The projects are now dead in the water, and the jobs have gone with them. This is not good for improving unemployment nor a good way to see if Trump can beat Biden’s record of creating sixteen million jobs.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

WEB PAGE FOR THE CONSTITUTION

The government website for the Constitution is gone. All one gets is a 404 Error Notice. Trump does not want you to be able to check what the Constitution says about his actions.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

GOVERNMENT INFORMATION

Trump signed an executive order stopping the flow of information from the government to the public. There will be no more information about health care, infectious diseases, warnings meant to protect life, unemployment statistics, pandemics, inflation, and other topics that many people are interested in. Transparency with the public is gone.

How is the US population supposed to gauge whether what the government is doing is good, bad, or ugly?

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

CANCER RESEARCH

Things stopped, sometimes right in the middle of meetings. Who the hell would want to cancel life-saving cancer research?

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION

They will not provide information on what is harmful to the public and what is not. So much for Trump’s claim to want to protect the public.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

FARM WORKERS NOT GOING TO WORK

This goes back to rounding up the immigrants. Farm workers are not showing up for work. In California, where 75% of the US oranges are produced, 75% of the workers are not showing up for work. Crops are rotting in the fields, and this is just one example.

Does anyone think this will lower food prices or inflation by 50%? If anyone does, they must be California Dreaming.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

FEMA

Trump says he wants to abolish FEMA. The other day, he said that while it had been working well under his previous administration, it is now a disaster.

If he thinks it is a disaster, and he was doing a fantastic job before, why not just fix it? Imagine being one of the thousands looking for FEMA’s help and facing the threat of having that help pulled out from under you.

How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

CONCLUSION

Is this what you voted for? How does that make you feel? Are you happy with that?

Please Open your Ojos. When it comes time to vote next time, be ready. Have enough knowledge so no one can sell you a bill of goods.

Best wishes ...
