The Canada-US Border Statistics & Trump's Lies

Mr. Trump’s justification for imposing tariffs on Canada is a lie. The statistics tell a completely different story.
INTRODUCTION
Mr. Trump's 25% tariffs, he said, were being put in place to get Canada and Mexico to stop the flow of drugs and illegal immigrants. The statistics tell an entirely and compelling other story. Below are the real numbers that paint a surprising picture that contradicts Mr. Trump’s lies.
With this, one must question what Mr. Trump’s objective is. Does Mr. Trump want to look politically tough, be damned the human and financial consequences to both countries?
Let’s look at the statistics because the statistics do not lie.
MIGRANT MOVEMENT
In 2024, the following are the migrant movements across the Canada- USA border.
From Canada to the U.S.: 18,644 people entered illegally.
From the U.S. to Canada: 28,000 people left the US and entered Canada illegally.
These numbers show a flow of illegal immigrants in both directions, with the flow from the United States to Canada being 50 percent higher.
@openyourojos and all those who voted for Trump, what does this say about Mr. Trump’s tariffs? Does the actual situation and Mr. Trump’s lies in support of his tariffs make sense?
THE DEADLY FLOW OF FENTANYL
We all appreciate that Fentanyl is highly addictive and extremely dangerous. There is no questioning that or the need to act. The amounts seized in 2024 highlight a concerning trend that contradicts Mr. Trump and what he is doing with tariffs.
From Canada to the U.S.: 43 pounds of fentanyl were seized.
From the U.S. to Canada: 882 pounds of fentanyl were seized.
The issue with Fentanyl crossing the border is like that of illegal immigrants. The problem is much worse for Canada, with the quantity of Fentanyl flowing from the United States being 20 times greater than Fentanyl from Canada to the United States.
As with the arguments about illegal immigrants, @openyourojos and all those who voted for Trump, what does this say about Mr. Trump’s tariffs? Does the actual situation and Mr. Trump’s lies in support of his tariffs make sense?
THE TRADE OF ILLEGAL GUNS
Mr. Trump does not even mention this issue. I presume he thought he had us with the illegal immigrants and Fentanyl, but in Canada, we care about guns and who has and uses them.
The statistics tell a story that the flow of illegal firearms from the USA to Canada poses a significant threat to our public safety. It may be OK to walk down the street with a pistol strapped to your body in the USA, but in Canada, we think entirely differently.
The statistics show that the United States is not helping us with this either. The numbers from 2024 are alarming:
From Canada to the U.S.: 3,000 illegal guns were seized.
From the U.S. to Canada: 30,000 illegal guns were seized.
Using Mr. Trump’s argument, Canada could have hit the USA between the eyes with tariffs. Still, we did not. There are much more respectful ways to address these issues without putting significant human and financial impacts onto the people of both countries.
HUMAN AND FINANCIAL IMPACTS
The consequences of Mr. Trump’s tariff actions extend far beyond the numbers. The issue is much worse flowing into Canada, but Mr. Trump conveniently did not tell you that. His arguments sounded politically significant but ignored the problems that the lack of action at the USA end is creating in Canada.
Trump also conveniently forgets to be upfront with everyone about the human and financial consequences of his tariffs, which will certainly not lower the price of groceries, as Mr. Trump promised.
Tariffs only add another layer of financial burden without addressing the core issues which Mr. Trump wants to keep from us – that the USA is allowing a much greater flow of drugs, people and guns from the United States to Canada.
@openyourojos and all those who voted for Trump, what does this say about Mr. Trump’s tariffs? Does the actual situation and Mr. Trump’s lies in support of his tariffs make sense?
THIS OPENS THE DOOR TO CHINA
This is a complex issue, and Mr. Trump has thrown to the wind the opportunity for China to take over as a major buyer of Canada’s oil and minerals. @openyourojos and all those who voted for Trump, what does this say about Mr. Trump’s tariffs? Does the actual situation and Mr. Trump’s lies in support of his tariffs make sense?
CONCLUSION
The statistics clearly show that Mr. Trump’s arguments for tariffs ignore the fact that there is a much more significant problem with people, drugs and guns flowing from the United States into Canada than the other way around.
To address this, Canada could have hit the USA between the eyes with tariffs. Still, we did not. There are much more respectful ways to address these issues without putting significant human and financial impacts on the people of both countries.
