Is Ignorance Bliss?

Did Biden Screw Up the Country?

INTRODUCTION

I read a comment by Heath Petersen, a farmer and blue-collar worker who wrote, “Biden screwed this country up so bad; I hope that Trump will do at least have (sic) of what he promised” (@tompowelljr3898). A belief that is not backed up by a spec of anything.

I can only assume that Mr. Peterson, like millions of his friends who voted for Trump, did not conduct any fact-finding research on the Internet. He obviously knows how to use the Internet, so there is no excuse.

Obama, as only he could, said in 2016, “In politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue. It’s not cool not to know what you’re talking about.”

I will leave it to anyone who wishes to decide about Heath Petersen and whether he knows what he is talking about.

Let’s Look at the Facts

INFLATION

There is no question that Inflation was a challenge during the Biden era. Biden was left with a Trump-infused $8 trillion increase to the US debt and the lasting impacts of COVID-19, where almost 1 million people died in the United States.

WHAT DID BIDEN ACCOMPLISH?

Jobs: 16 million new jobs created

Inflation: In 2023, inflation dropped to 3.4%.

Inflation: In 2024, inflation dropped to 2.9%

GRAPH OF JOB CREATION

Trump is the worst of them all. Biden is the best of them all.

EGG PRICES

  • August, 2023: $2.23 per dozen.

  • January 2025: $4.95 per dozen

  • February 2025: $9 – 11 per dozen

GASOLINE PRICES

  • December 30, 2024: $2.97 per gallon

  • February 15, 2024: $3.13 per gallon

DID BIDEN SCREW THIS COUNTRY?

Back to what Heath Petersen said, “Biden screwed this country up so bad.” An opinion not supported by the facts. The above are facts that anyone can easily find on the internet.

Do the facts show a screw up? As Obama said, “In politics and life, ignorance is not a virtue.” You decide if Mr. Petersen is ignorant of the facts.

WHAT DID TRUMP PROMISE?

1. In October 2024, Trump said, "On DAY ONE, I'll SLASH prices."

Gas has gone up $0.14 per gallon, and eggs have gone up about $8.00 per dozen.

Trump said, "I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day 1. We will end Kamala's war on American energy, and we will drill, baby, drill. We're gonna drill, baby, drill. That's gonna bring down prices of everything because energy brought it up."

2. End the Ukraine war within 24 hours of being confirmed as the Republican presidential candidate, then changed to 24 hours after being elected.

"That is a war that's dying to be settled. I will get it settled before I even become president," Trump said in the September presidential debate against Harris.

3. Carry out the largest mass deportation in U.S. history.

Here are some of the headlines:

  • US deportations under Biden surpass Trump's record while in office.

  • Trump kills the immigration bill that would have provided financial resources to ICE to increase deportations and discovery of fentanyl.

  • The following is a graph of Trump’s record during his first month. Remember, he promised to start the largest deportation in history on “day one.”

That is 4,475 compared to Biden’s monthly average in 2024 of 22,583.

4. Cut federal funding to schools that teach "critical race theory" and "transgender" matters.

Trump recently signed an executive order to cut school funding with COVID-19 mandates. Why is this a federal blanket issue? The school districts and communities have school boards elected at the people's will to ensure local values are respected. Trump just took that away. Why?

5. Rollback Biden's electric vehicle incentives

Trump called it a “mandate,” which it was not. It was an incentive. Biden was urging Americans to adopt EVs and offering incentives to move the country to the point where 50% of new vehicles sold are zero-emission to combat climate change.

6. End taxes on tips

This has not happened and is not part of Trump's massive tax bill, which would give the wealthy 1 percent a $61,000 tax cut and the rest an average of a $400 tax cut.

This is before the impact of those who have mortgages losing the interest write-off proposed by Trump.

The cost? About $467 billion per year. Now, do you begin to see the reason Trump is gutting the US government?

7. No taxes on Social Security income

This would require Congress’s approval, and Trump has not said how he would pay for this plan.

8. Replace" Obamacare – The Affordable Care Act

Trump said he has a “concept of a plan.” But, one of Dodge’s goals is to gut this healthcare that provides coverage to 45 million Americans.

9. Expand the Child Tax Credit

Trump promised to increase the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 to $5,000.

BACK TO YOU, HEATH PETERSEN

Do the facts show a Biden screw up? Or can you see how you drank the Kook-Aid? As Obama said, “Ignorance in politics and life is not a virtue.” I have my opinion about your ignorance and what it has done to the country, but I leave it to everyone to judge for themselves.

So, Heath Petersen, @openyourojos and all those who voted for Trump, are you getting what you voted for?
